Tree Rings
Tree Rings, 2024 is a multimedia cyanotype print of an original poem. The poem helps to contextualize the installation on Maps Of Interconnection. I chose to use cyanotype as it is the original mapping process.
I’m sitting
in the wet grass of the early spring sun looking
through the branches of an oak tree.
Her branches reaching out
fracturing the sky with her growth.
The shapes she makes with her arms remind me of the scars
that fracture my skin
making new
the body around it
Allowing more light to shine through.
My scars
and the branches
both proof of growth, of pain, of change.
They belong to each other
and each
to the greater system that helped them to grow.
