Ni kiskinohamâson, I am learning. And will continue to learn. Language is a part of this land as much as I am, as much as our non-human relatives are, “Indigenous languages and the land are one and the same” (Chiblow & Meighan, 2022). Working towards strengthening our connection to the land, each other, and languages will be a lifelong process of learning and listening. Relational practices like walking and beading are guiding frameworks in decolonial work as academics and artists. I have much to learn from the land, “this steep-sided valley is my most important lecture theatre. This is where I learn how to live, with myself and with what I know, with my relations in the water, on land, in the air” (Weigel, 2022, 106).
